Cathodic corrosion protection under pressing groundwater

The single-storey underground car park at Lindenplatz in Eichenau in the west of Munich offers 28 parking spaces on a usable area of around 670 m². The structure was built in reinforced concrete as a white tank, is not built over and is accessed via an open ramp.

Since summer 2023, the structure has been under water pressure of up to 2 m due to permanently elevated groundwater levels. Extensive preliminary investigations revealed active corrosion processes on the wall bases, column bases and parts of the floor slab. This resulted in a comprehensive need for renovation to permanently secure the load-bearing structure.

The chosen solution: cathodic corrosion protection (CCP) with the aim of permanently preventing chloride-induced corrosion – even under difficult conditions due to pressurized water and restricted access.

Installation of strip anodes on the floor surface, column and wall bases as well as intelligent control using the modular Noxeco system.

Thanks to the combination of robust anode technology and adaptive current control, the system offers effective corrosion protection with minimal disruption to building operation – even under exceptionally demanding conditions such as constant water pressure.

Strip anodes: 3006 m
